Foodie Heaven

On Saturday evening I went to the Toronto Underground Market with my mom, sister, boyfriend, aunt and cousins. TUM, as it is referred to, is basically a giant food fair that takes place once a month. All the vendors are either small catering businesses or food entrepreneurs who are just starting out. The way it works is that you pay a $10 entrance fee and then you have a plethora of food options that range form $2-$6 in price.

This was the first time I've gone and getting the most out of the experience definitely requires some strategy. We decided that it would be best to divide and conquer in order to try as many different things as possible. The strategy worked pretty well since we all got in different lines and met up at a picnic table to share everything. Everyone put in $20 and from that we tasted at least 25 different items from 11 different vendors. I would say it was a total success. Here are snapshots of just some of the things we ate.

From L-R, top to bottom:

- Pulled pork and ham sandwich, beef brisket sandwich, and pulled chicken and carrot slaw sandwhich from Fidel Gastro's

- Flautas and pulled pork sandwhiches from ESE'

- Chicken souvlaki and pork kebob from Kalofagas Greek Food

- Spicy popcorn from Babi & Co

- Pork skewer from Babi & Co

- Potato croquette from Babi & Co

- Samosas from Mama Nashi's Samosas

- Porchetta sandwich from The Slow Room

- Corn bread grilled cheese and water buffalo empanada from Comida del Pueblo

- Arancini and polenta from Thistletown High School Chefs

- Elk stew from Craig Overstone

- Sloppy Joe from The Slow Room

- Cannelles from Snackery

- Doughnuts from Dough by Rachelle
